Gastric Bypass Surgery
The gastric bypass, or Roux en Y Bypass, is a procedure that allows for substantial weight loss, and is particularly beneficial in treating patients with type 2 diabetes, as well as other health conditions.

How it Works
During a gastric bypass, your stomach’s anatomy will be changed leaving a smaller stomach pouch, and a portion of your digestive tract will be “bypassed”. This means that your food will travel through a smaller portion of your small intestines. These changes work together to help patients feel full after eating less food, and by reducing the calories that are absorbed into the body. Patients also sometimes report an increased desire to eat healthy foods, and a substantial reduction in cravings. The gastric bypass has been a popular weight surgery for more than 50 years.
What to Expect
Patients are often in the hospital 1 – 3 days after the gastric bypass surgery. Initially, you’ll consume only liquids. You’ll then progress to purees, followed by soft foods through the adjustment and healing process. Our team will work with you to make sure you’re comfortable with the changes that will help you get the most benefit from your surgery.
